Yockey’s Warrior tops weekend stakes double for Warrior’s Reward
January 14, 2018
Yockey’s Warrior made it two straight stakes wins with a confident-looking victory in the $75,000US Duncan F. Kenner Memorial Jan. 13 at Fair Grounds, the venerable New Orleans, Louisiana track (VIDEO).
The 6-year-old son of Warrior’s Reward won the Thanksgiving Day H. over the same track to close out 2017. He also won that race in 2016. Warrior’s Reward big Saturday also included the first stakes win in the career of Medal of Courage, who won the Fremont S. later that evening at Delta Downs.
Much like he did on Thanksgiving, Yockey’s Warrior was patiently handled by Miguel Mena, went to the lead on his own in upper stretch, then cleared off late for a 2 1/4-length win in 1:10.43 for the six furlongs on a fast track.
Yockey’s Warrior now sports an excellent 8-1-2 record from 15 starts and has earned $360,270US. He was bred in Kentucky by Glen Oak Farm and Gerry Brodsky.
