Warrior’s Reward 2YO dominates stakes debut

September 24, 2017

Battle Station turned in a superlative performance in the $150,000US Bertram Bongard S. Sept. 22 at Belmont Park, drawing off in the stretch to win by 9 1/4-lengths in the first stakes start for the 2-year-old son of Warrior’s Reward.

Leading almost every step of the way in the seven-furlong main track affair, Battle Station led by a length through the first half-mile before easily pulling away for an eye-catching win.

“My horse ran very good and I’d like to thank [trainer] Wesley [Ward] and the Ramseys [owners],” said winning rider Kendrick Carmouche.

Battle Station, winner of his debut on the Saratoga turf on Aug. 25, is now 2-for-2 and has earned $133,800US for Ken and Sarah Ramsey.

Bred by Lansdowne Thoroughbreds, Battle Station sold to his owners at the 2015 Keeneland November Breeding Stock sale.

Battle Station is one of Warrior’s Reward’s three North American stakes horses in September and nine overall this year. He also had his top yearling of the year at the recent Keeneland auction with a $325,000US colt.
