Three Beans Scores on Debut for Spendthrift Australia
May 28, 2019
Spendthrift Australia’s 2-year-old colt Three Beans (AUS) began his career on the perfect note at Ballarat on Monday, winning the Maiden Plate (1100m) at his very first start.
The Hawkes Racing-trained son of speed sire Deep Field had shown good ability in a recent trial win and was the favourite for the 2-year-old and up maiden race, and lived up to expectations beating home the older horses.
Rider James Winks had him jump out well from the gates, vying for the front in the early stages. Positioned against the fence, Three Beans drew a length and a half in front of the field in the last 250m and had the race under control to finish a length and a quarter ahead of closest rival Cimota, with Highway to Success in third.
Three Beans has had the one start for one win and $12,650 in prizemoney.
He is the first named foal out of Fastnet Rock mare Mrs Boxall, a half-sister to stakes-winning Flying Spur mare Miss Gai Flyer.
Spendthrift Australia secured the colt at the 2018 Gold Coast Yearling Sale for $220,000 out of the draft of Torryburn Stud.
