Overshare progeny generating big buzz

September 17, 2020

Exciting young Spendthrift Australia stallion Overshare has made a massive impression on breeders with his early progeny.

A stakes-winning son of super-sire I Am Invincible, Overshare began his stud career in 2018 and his first crop of yearlings will hit sale rings during the 2020-21 season.

Glenfern Park Stud’s David Phipps has no doubt that Overshare will make his mark over the next 12 to 18 months.

“I haven’t seen a stallion stamp foals the way he has since Encosta de Lago,” he said. “They’re just sensational. They’re real athletes, and they’re peas in a pod – you can spot one of his progeny a mile away.

“I’ll absolutely be supporting him again with my mares, and I’m telling everyone I talk to that they should do the same.

“I believe he’ll be leading first season sire. His foals are just outstanding.

“I’d recommend it to anyone – go out and buy a mare and send her straight to Overshare. You won’t be disappointed.”

Jenny Watson from Macleay Thoroughbreds is another enthusiastic supporter, believing Overshare is an ideal alternative for breeders whose budgets can’t stretch to I Am Invincible’s $209,000 service fee.

“I went and saw him when he first started his stud career, and I thought he was very much like his sire, I Am Invincible,” she said. “He showed a lot of talent on the racetrack, being a lightly raced Group winner, and I thought he was worth a punt. He’s certainly a good option for those of us who can’t quite afford I Am Invincible himself.

“My Overshare foal out of Had Every Chance (Husson {Arg}) is a very nice filly. She’s got that I Am Invincible look – bay with a little white star and one white sock. She’s athletic and balanced. She’s a lovely filly.

“I have a breeding right for Overshare, so I’ll definitely be supporting him again this year.”

Noor Elaine Farm’s Mark Calwell is another who has been more than satisfied with the result of his mares’ matings with Overshare.

“We’ve been very happy with the Overshare foals,” he said. “They’re nice horses with good bone and some real scope about them. We’re definitely keen to send a couple of mares to the stallion again this year.”

Overshare boasts a quality pedigree, being by I Am Invincible out of the Redoute’s Choice mare Savannah’s Choice, who placed in the G3 Doomben Roses.

Savannah’s Choice is a half-sister to G1 American Oaks and Japanese Oaks winner Cesario (Jpn) (Special Week {Jpn}), who is the dam of Group 1 winners Epiphaneia (Jpn) (Symboli Kris S {USA}), Saturnalia (Jpn) (Lord Kanaloa {Jpn}) and Leontes (Jpn) (King Kamehameha {Jpn}).

Another of Savannah’s Choice’s half-sisters is the dam of multiple Group winner Irithea (Snitzel).

Overshare won three races including the G3 Zeditave S. and Listed Mitchell McKenzie S., along with a second placing in the G3 Manfred S. and fourths in the Listed Blue Diamond Preview and Rosebud.

Overshare will stand at Spendthrift Australia in 2020 for a service fee of $11,000.
