Overshare Presents Quality Options for Breeders
August 10, 2021
A bright talent on the racetrack with high-quality Australian blood on both sides of his pedigree, Spendthrift Australia’s Overshare presents himself as great value to Australian breeders.
Overshare is a son of one of this country’s most dominant sires in I Am Invincible, who set a new Australian record during the 2020/21 season, siring 209 winners and eclipsing his 2019 benchmark of 184 winners. I Am Invincible is known as a sire of precocious 2YOs so we expect to see Overshare’s first 2YOs on the track in the near future.
Overshare’s racing career featured three wins, headlined by the G3 Zeditave Stakes and the Listed McKenzie Stakes. He finished second in the G3 Manfred Stakes and was fourth in the Blue Diamond Preview and the Rosebud. Only two of his 12 starts were outside black-type company.
Overshare’s win in the Zedative Stakes brings a family connection of sorts. Both his sire I Am Invincible and Zeditave descend from the legendary broodmare Chelandry, who features in the pedigrees of many of I Am Invincible’s leading progeny.
The lineage has further global reach with Overshare’s dam, Savannah’s Choice, being a half-sister to Cesario, the Champion Japanese 3YO filly. Cesario is the dam of stakes winners Leontes, Saturnalia and Japan Cup winner Epiphaneia, to whom Champion mare Almond Eye is currently in foal. Epiphaneia has had a very strong start to his own stallion career in Japan, siring a multiple Group 1 winner in his first crop and another Group 1 winner in his second crop.
Choisir has proven to be a very successful nick with the I Am Invincible line, with each of the 10 runners produced securing one or more wins each. The nick has a 20% stakes winners to runners rate and nearly $1.9 million in earnings.
Whilst the I Am Invincible x Reset cross may have only been utilised on a small number of occasions, it is a promising one worthy of consideration. The cross accounts for 14 winners including Group 2 winner Prophet’s Thumb and G3 winner Houtzen, has nearly $3 million in earnings and strikes at 40% stakes winner to runners.
Progeny produced on the I Am Invincible x Flying Spur cross have also had very good success on the racetrack, with 25 winners from 28 runners. With an outstanding 89% winners to runners rate, the tally of 79 wins includes two Group and four stakes wins.
Another nick worthy of mention is that with Encosta De Lago, highlighted by Group 2 Premiere Stakes winner Libertini. The nick has produced 26 winners from 32 runners, with a total of 93 race wins. With one Group win, three stakes wins and two stakes placings, it holds an impressive 9% stakes winners to runners rate and earnings over $5.1 million.
Overshare is an identical type to his champion sire which is only strengthened by his female family featuring five global champions, a convincing example of breeding the best to the best.
Overshare stands at Spendthrift Australia in 2021 for a service fee of $11,000.
