Opportunities abound for Redoute’s Choice sire son Swear

A son of the legendary Redoute’s Choice, the sky is the limit for Spendthrift stallion Swear.

Consistent support in his early years at stud has been reflected in the sale ring, with his yearlings selling up to 14 times his service fee. From a proven family and with results on the track, Swear is again an attractive and accessible proposition for Australian breeders.

Swear

A $725,000 yearling purchase by Spendthrift, the Hawkes Racing-trained Swear was an impressive and undefeated two-year-old. First up at three he won the G3 Ming Dynasty Quality, then finished second behind star filly Yankee Rose in the G1 Spring Champion Stakes.

Swear has an exceptional pedigree being by Champion sire Redoute’s Choice, who quickly rose to become one of the biggest names in Australian stallion history. Despite his death in 2019 at age 22, his influence will be felt for decades to come. Swear’s dam, Crossyourheart (NZ) (Show A Heart), was a multiple stakes winner who won six of her 14 starts, four of them as a two-year-old, including a dazzling four-length romp in the New Zealand Bloodstock Classique – predecessor to the Karaka Million.

The Australian breeding landscape would look very different without the influence of Swear’s sire Redoute’s Choice, and it is no surprise that he has produced outstanding results when crossed with other sire superstars who made their name in this part of the world.

With the Sir Tristram line (including his sons Zabeel, Marauding and Military Plume), Redoute’s Choice and his descendants have produced a whopping 4356 winners including 402 at stakes level. Sir Tristram alone has a 36% stakes winners to runners rate. Their progeny includes Group 1 winners Lankan Rupee, Melito, Samantha Miss, Lotteria, Super Seth, Kementari, Pasadena Girl, Clearly Innocent, Royal Descent, Adventador and Shootoff.

Lankan Rupee

The prolific American shuttle stallion More Than Ready has clicked beautifully with Redoute’s Choice blood. The nick has produced 21 winners from 25 runners including five stakes winners and has an impressive 20% stakes winners to runners rate. More Than Ready descends from the great mare La Troienne, who also appears in Swear’s pedigree. Breeders could also consider other La Troienne descendants such as Woodman, Don’t Say Halo and Rhythm.

Encosta De Lago has also proven to nick very well with Redoute’s Choice. With earnings over $12 million, the pairing has produced 150 wins from 51 runners, including six Group wins across Australia and at an international level, giving an elite 15% stakes winners to runners rate.

The Redoute’s Choice-Last Tycoon nick has proven to be another gold mine for breeders. This cross has produced 34 winners from 36 runners and has an incredible 27% stakes winners to runners rate, including five Group and 10 stakes wins. Elite progeny of this cross includes Master of Design, Sacred Falls, Shout the Bar, Wandjina and Dariana.

Adding extra appeal to the Last Tycoon connection is the fact that Last Tycoon’s ancestress Schiaparelli also appears in the pedigree of Crossyourheart’s sire, Show A Heart, via her grandson Dogger Bank. Last Tycoon’s Australian descendants include the current star sire Written Tycoon.
