Impressive 2YO Colt Wins on Debut

March 27, 2021

It was an impressive win for Spendthrift Australia’s debut juvenile colt Patton on Thursday, becoming the 3rd winner for American Triple Crown Winner, American Pharoah.

Racing in the Spendthrift silks, Patton who is trained by the Hawkes Racing team, enjoyed a lovely trial behind the leaders and was allowed to work through his gears under a patient ride from champion jockey Craig Williams.

Patton out of G2 Queensland Guineas winner Tsaritsa, is a half-sister to two group performers. Patton’s 2nd dam has produced the G2 winner and G1 placed Ninth Legion (Fastnet Rock) and multiple stakes placed colt Sing a Love Song (Your Song). The exciting colt was a $675,000 purchase at last year’s Gold Coast Magic Millions sale from the Attunga Stud draft and was bred by Grand View Park Stud.

American Pharoah has not been the only American sire to feature amongst the leading 2YO sires in Australia this season with Frosted, Street Boss and Medaglia d’Oro also performing well. Spendthrift Farm Australia for a second season is shuttling Spendthrift America’s stallions Omaha Beach and Vino Rosso.
