Hualalai scores second win in five weeks

July 2, 2017

Spendthrift Farm’s promising 2-year-old colt Hualalai captured a Rosehill Gardens 1400m handicap on July 1 to give the bay juvenile his second victory in just a little over a month (Watch video).

Run over a soft turf, Hualalai tracked in fourth under a snug hold until the 300 meter mark, when he accelerated quickly to clear off, winning by about a length and a half in a very eye-catching performance. The winner covered the distance in 1:25.70 and picked up $54,000 for the win. Hualalai’s overall record is 2-1-0 in five starts, including his maiden score at 1200m May 23rd at Kembla Grange.

Hualalai is by Street Cry (IRE), sire of North American Horse of the Year Zenyatta and 2017 Kentucky Derby (US-G1) Street Sense, and is out of Aloha, a Group 1 winner of $804,974.
