First 2YO runner an impressive winner for Swear

Spendthrift Australia’s young Redoute’s Choice stallion Swear had his first runner salute the judge in first place with colt Faulds, from G1-placed Patricia’s Gem (USA) (Mineshaft {USA}) taking out the 2-year-old event at Geelong.

The Michael, Wayne and John Hawkes-trained colt justified the faith of punters when beating Pegasi (Star Turn) and Micro (Medaglia d’Oro {USA}) in an eye-catching performance as he circled the field to win while easing down.

Bred by Spendthrift, Faulds was purchased off Widden Stud at the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale for $80,000 by Hawkes Racing. The partnership also trained Swear to win on debut, who then took out the G3 Ming Dynasty S. and finished second in the G1 Spring Champion S in a short five start career.

Wayne Hawkes has always had a strong opinion of the colt, stating in August: “Our Swear colt is a lovely horse. He’s done everything right, I really like what I’ve seen so far. He’s beautifully balanced and has a great attitude.”

Patricia’s Gem has a yearling filly by Overshare, a Swear colt foal and is in foal to Omaha Beach.

A $725,000 Easter yearling, Swear began stud duties at Spendthrift in 2017 and his oldest progeny are two-year-olds.
